Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński, MD, PhD, MSc, and his team performed three groundbreaking hearing implant operations. The innovative procedures took place on 9 December 2024 at the World Hearing Center, marking a milestone in otolaryngology and medical technology.
- Cochlear OSIA — a bone-conduction middle ear implant for a child
A Cochlear OSIA implant was placed in a young patient for the first time in Poland. This modern bone-conduction system helps children with middle ear damage hear better by transmitting sound directly to the cochlea. The operation enables children with congenital or acquired defects to develop properly and benefit from their full communication potential.
- Oticon Medical SENTIO — an implant for an adult
The team also performed Poland’s first Oticon Medical SENTIO implantation in an adult patient. This advanced hearing system improves sound perception even in difficult acoustic conditions. The technology offers adults with hearing loss the prospect of substantially better quality of life and everyday functioning.
- A fully implantable cochlear implant
As part of an international clinical trial, a fully implantable cochlear implant was placed for the first time in Poland. This solution eliminates the need for external device components. The patient can hear without wearing visible parts on the ear, taking a step towards greater discretion and comfort.
These three pioneering operations open new treatment opportunities for patients with different types of hearing loss and represent a significant advance in medical technology. They take hearing treatment in Poland to a new level, providing access to the latest solutions.
