Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński on society during coronavirus

News

Poles try to function normally despite coronavirus symptoms and seek medical help only when their condition becomes very serious — a claim appearing increasingly often in the media.

‘My personal impression is that this phenomenon does exist. We can see it, for example, in various social media posts,’ said Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński on TVP Info’s ‘Walka z koronawirusem’.

Asked why this happens, the Professor suggested that people may have had bad experiences with healthcare, such as long waiting lists for tests or difficulties obtaining referrals.

‘Many people try, if possible, to spend their illness in home isolation, but irresponsible behaviour is indeed becoming more frequent in society. Such behaviour cannot be accepted: it needs close observation and oversight,’ said the Professor.
