Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński, MD, PhD, MSc, has been invited to deliver special lectures at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. In August 2026, he will visit this renowned American medical university as a visiting and honorary professor (Dr. Ludwig A. Michael Endowed Lecturer).
The invitation recognises his scientific and clinical achievements and marks another important stage in Professor Piotr H. Skarżyński’s long-standing cooperation with the American otolaryngology and audiology community. The visit to Dallas will provide an opportunity to present Polish experience in treating hearing disorders, exchange knowledge and discuss further joint scientific, clinical and educational activities. The distinctions of Dr. Ludwig A. Michael Endowed Lecturer and Distinguished Visiting Professor are both a personal honour for Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński and confirmation of the international significance of Polish achievements in otology, audiology and hearing implants.
During his stay at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński will deliver two lectures. The first, entitled ‘Hearing Implants – from Indications to Long-Term Results. Surgical and Audiological Aspects’, will cover hearing implants: indications and patient selection, surgical and audiological issues, and long-term treatment and rehabilitation outcomes. The Professor will present experience in the comprehensive care of patients using various types of hearing implants. He will focus particularly on appropriate patient selection, individually tailored solutions, interdisciplinary teamwork and systematic assessment of patients’ outcomes in the years following surgery.
The second lecture, ‘Network of Hearing and Speech Centers – How to Develop and Maintain It among Other Areas of Medicine’, will address the creation and maintenance of networks specialising in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of hearing and speech disorders. Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński will discuss experience in developing cooperation between medical facilities, implementing common standards of care and using telemedicine to provide long-term patient care. He will also present opportunities to apply the network model to other areas of medicine, highlighting knowledge exchange, coordination and international cooperation.
More than 15 years of activity in the United States
The Dallas lectures form part of Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński’s activity in the United States spanning more than 15 years. His cooperation with the American scientific community began in 2010, when he attended international courses on diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation methods in otorhinolaryngology. His work within the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS), one of the world’s leading otorhinolaryngology organisations, is particularly important. In 2024–2026, Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński chaired the AAO-HNS International Advisory Board, which develops the Academy’s international cooperation. He is involved in scientific committees: the Hearing Committee (two terms: 2017–2019 and 2024–2028), the Implantable Hearing Devices Committee (two terms: 2021–2023 and 2026–2028), and the Otology & Neurotology Education Committee (2021–2023). In 2021, he was selected as a Goodwill Ambassador representing Poland at the AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience. In 2019, the Academy recognised his work on the Hearing Committee.
Professor Skarżyński regularly participates in major meetings of the American otolaryngology community, including successive editions of the AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO Experience, the American Otological Society Annual Meeting, the Ultimate Colorado Midwinter Meeting, the American Academy of Audiology, the American Cochlear Implant Alliance and others. He also contributes to AAO-HNS international educational initiatives, including the AAO-HNSF Global Grand Rounds series, which shares specialist knowledge with doctors around the world.
