Piotr H. Skarżyński has become an expert in otolaryngology, audiology and phoniatrics, and public health on the team assessing applications for compensation for medical errors. The team operates at the Patient Ombudsman within the Medical Events Compensation Fund launched in September.
The team comprises specialists from various medical fields (currently 45 people): doctors, nurses, laboratory diagnosticians, physiotherapists and pharmacists who currently serve or have served as national or regional consultants, presidents of scientific societies, rectors and deans of medical universities, directors of hospitals and institutes, heads of clinics and departments, or court experts.
The Medical Events Compensation Fund deals with compensation for injury or death resulting from a ‘medical event’ in hospitals working with the National Health Fund. It provides a fast-track procedure replacing the previous arrangements.
