The Health of Poles Congress 2019 took place on 18–19 November: the first meeting of its kind bringing together health ministers, scientists, doctors and experts from non-governmental organisations.
Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński, MD, PhD, MSc, whose roles include Vice-President of the International Society for Telemedicine and eHealth, chaired a panel on the current possibilities of telemedicine. Could telemedicine remedy healthcare’s shortcomings? This question was put to doctors and specialists particularly concerned with improving patients’ quality of life.
Prof. Piotr Skarżyński recalled telemedicine’s beginnings: ‘Five years ago we met and everyone presented trials, whereas only now is it really beginning to work in practice. Specialists are ready for real telemedical activity, but unfortunately the system is not,’ he assessed. ‘We lack systemic solutions encouraging telemedicine use, although these already work quite well in Switzerland, for example,’ he added.
‘The Health of Poles Congress 2019 transcends political divisions, because everyone’s health is our greatest asset today and our greatest investment for the future,’ said the organisers.
