Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński received the Welconomy Emerald, the most important award of the 30th Welconomy Economic Forum 2023 in Toruń — one of Poland’s largest economic congresses.
The Welconomy Emerald recognises significant contributions to national development and the building of a strong economy.
‘Green, the colour of emerald, defines my goals because it is also the colour of hope, which patients need so much,’ said Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński, an otorhinolaryngologist, paediatric otorhinolaryngologist, audiologist and phoniatrician, and board member of the MEDINCUS Center of Hearing and Speech, when accepting the Welconomy Emerald statuette. ‘I believe that, together with my team, we restore their hope of a very good quality of life through operations and procedures that restore hearing. This award is an enormous honour for me.’
In its citation, the Welconomy Programme Council highlighted the international importance of the laureate’s achievements. Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński is the first Pole elected president-elect of the International Advisory Board of the American Academy of Otolaryngology. He is also a founding member of the WHO World Hearing Forum, Vice-President of the International Society for Telemedicine and eHealth, a member of the HEARRING network of centres of excellence in hearing, and a board member of the European Academy of Otology and Neurotology and the European Federation of Audiology Societies. In December 2022, he was appointed to the Council of the National Science Centre. Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński conducts and coordinates hearing screening across several continents and performs pioneering otorhinolaryngological operations. Through his efforts, patients in Africa, Central Asia and Ukraine gain access to the latest medical technologies and solutions.
The Welconomy Forum also included a session with Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński on health policy in the context of national and international challenges.
The 30th Welconomy Economic Forum took place in Toruń on 3–4 April 2023. Scientists, entrepreneurs, diplomats, government representatives, local officials and parliamentarians discussed national security in its economic, energy, military and health dimensions.
