Healthcare increasingly uses artificial intelligence and innovative technologies to support doctors in diagnosis and in choosing treatment for individual patients.
‘Various forms of AI — or, more precisely, self-learning algorithms — are already present in medicine. They are used wherever large amounts of data need to be analysed rapidly to identify anomalies and bring them to a doctor’s attention. Diagnostic imaging is one example: algorithms analyse MRI scans, ultrasound images or photographs of the eye’s fundus, searching for worrying changes that may indicate disease,’ explained Prof. Piotr H. Skarżyński in an interview with Prawo.pl. He added that language-based chat systems such as ChatGPT could theoretically help with initial patient histories or with drafting detailed patient recommendations from brief instructions supplied by a doctor.
